Google introduces a new AI-powered language learning experience, competing with Duolingo!

Google has introduced three new artificial intelligence tools aimed at making the language learning process more personalized and aligned with real-life situations.

These tools are supported by Google's advanced multimodal language model, Gemini, and could potentially rival Duolingo, a widely used language learning platform. The innovations introduced by Google focus on practical scenarios, colloquial language, and visual learning.

The main features of these three experiences are:

1. Tiny Lesson – Provides vocabulary and grammar suggestions tailored to real-life situations you may encounter. All you need to do is describe a situation, such as “ordering food at a restaurant,” and the tool presents relevant expressions and sentence structures, like: “Can I look at the menu?” “Do you have vegetarian dishes?”

2. Slang Hang – Focuses on developing informal, everyday conversational language. This tool helps learners move beyond textbook language to learn more natural, native-speaking expressions. You’ll be introduced to scenarios like a conversation between a buyer and a seller or a reunion between two old friends, and you can click on any unfamiliar words to learn their meanings and usage.

3. Word Cam – Allows you to identify objects around you and learn their names. By taking a picture with your phone’s camera, Gemini identifies the objects and displays their names in the language you’re learning.

According to Google, the main goal is to support independent and personalized learning, offering a more dynamic and effective learning process. These technologies make learning more practical and interactive.
